Mechelse Herder kennel van de Maanwacht

Which dogs qualify for our kennel?

  • A stabile, reliable companion. A working dog. Healthy, selected based on its working capacities and character. Dog and bitch should both demonstrate a well-balanced image.
  • A lively and energetic dog, one that is not afraid to stand up in any given situation and that you can take with you anywhere.
  • A flexible, versatile dog. A dog that can adapt to changing circumstances, various challenges and unusual tasks.
Within our kennel we want to demonstrate that any dog can be sociable, a good and powerful working partner or sports dog. Being sociable has nothing to do with a dog's ability to bite. On the contrary, a dog that is stabile enough to think when he is driven before he acts will be even more qualitative in the work field. This will eventually lead to a better cooperation between handler and dog, and a better acceptance of the dog within society.
Our breeding dogs are selected with the utmost care. We take pride in socializing our pups and giving them the best possible start in life. Unfortunately, we cannot predict how a grown dog turns out, seen as their handler is ultimately mainly responsible for a dog's behaviour.
We would like future handlers of our pups to read the previous and the following, and to think it over before contacting us.
What kinds of handlers are suitable for our dogs?

A handler who...
... is not afraid to balance the thin line between "growth" and "control".
... has the guts to accept a dog's strong character without breaking it.
... wants to invest time, a lot of work and even more patience in training his dog.
... is able to respect the dog's individuality.
... is worth earning the dog's respect.
